Legislative Update

Happy 2023, Winooski! The legislative biennium begins tomorrow and I wanted to share some information on upcoming events and community meet-ups as Rep. Small and I work to make state policy that works for Winooski. As the session continues, stay tuned for weekly updates from us on Front Porch Forum as well as monthly columns in the Winooski Newsletter.

It is an honor to represent you. Please reach out to me (dberbeco@leg.state.vt.us) or Representative Small (tsmall@leg.state.vt.us) any time you have questions. Thank you again for the incredible opportunity to serve our great community.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS WEEK

Wednesday, January 4th - start of the 2023 Legislative Session. As this is the start of a new biennium, all representatives will be sworn in, the Speaker of the House will be elected on this day and seats and committees will be assigned.

Thursday, January 5th - there will be a joint legislative session at 2 pm to hear the Governor's Inaugural Message.

To view upcoming proceedings, go to the General Assembly website (https://legislature.vermont.gov/) and search under "streaming links". This website also includes information on all legislators, bills introduced and committee links.

The “get involved” tab on www.daisyforwinooski.com has a link to a tutorial on how to navigate the legislative website if you are interested to read any of the bills, or watch committee proceedings in the coming months.

RESOURCES TO SHARE

Health Insurance

It's not too late to get health insurance for 2023. Open Enrollment goes until 1/15/23 for plans starting on 2/1/23. More information is here: https://info.healthconnect.vermont.gov/how-apply.

Internet Service

Do you really get the internet service providers say you do on the FCC Map? Click the link to check and also to file a challenge if the info is wrong. Correcting it means more money for Vermont and more affordable service for Vermonters!

* Visit the FCC National Broadband Map website: https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home

* Type your address into the Search by Address field and press the enter key. The map will zoom in on your location. On the right of the screen are the reported broadband service providers and maximum connection speeds they offer for sale at your location.

* Review the reported services.

* If the reported services are available at your location, you’re all done with the availability assessment! If the reported service availability is inaccurate, we encourage you to enter an availability challenge.

* If you are concerned about publicly disclosing your challenge or are having difficulties, please call Consumer Affairs Hotline (800) 622-4496. The information provided will be used to populate bulk challenges to larger areas than individual residences.
